Dissolve

Card sort of dissolves in water It goes from solid to pliable and fluid; but the textures on it are thick and unfinished like a late Rembrandt. Magical yet macabre.

Bark

Look at any natural object in detail and you suddenly notice the quantity of colours in them and the rich, sinuous lines. Must remember to take my camera with me more.

Minimalism Rocks

I was recently at a job with my husband just outside of D.C. It was at a home a guy is building for him and his family. This place is amazing. Its still under construction and it is beautiful. Glass walkways and hallways.  An outside koi pond that will flow underneath one of the glass walkways. Aluminium staircases. And a square toilet, for Pete's sake! This place was so inspiring to me. To see how someone can take what is in their mind and make it an amazing three-dimensional home.

French Flea

Textures. I love textures. Walking round the Musee D'Orsay I had to keep my hands in my pockets to dodge exploring the Van Goghs through tactile means.

Look at the cracking plaster of this Flea Market. Thick and grubby and beautiful.

Hampstead Heath

where the place? Upon the heath.

Wandering about Hampstead Heath with my friend's camera (markedly better than mine) I was struck by the smoky look of this tree bark. If one didn't know it was a little bit of lichen , it would be possible to imagine the hound of the Baskervilles emerging from this pea-souper.

Oxidize

Rust. It's interesting. The colours, the texture of it. The way light shows the curious peaks and troughs of it.

No two pieces are the same. It is everywhere, common perhaps, but when you look closely it is strangely majestic.

I want to recreate it with paints, and fabrics or collages or prints.

Look closely. Be amazed.

the devil's in the details....

ok.......maybe the devil isn't really in details, but there is a lot to be said about the little things. think about it, what makes us like a home, a photograph, an event, or a personality? it's the details....each person in the same room can look at the same room and come up with inumerable conclusions. pretty cool to think about, huh?

this pic was taken at a local coffee shop that i was at with my mom. after eating our fabulous food, i started wandering around. i started taking pics. i showed them to my mom when i was done & she didn't even know where i took them!

so, next time you go somewhere you always go, take a couple of closeup pics of the details: the piles of envelopes at the post office, the bananas at the market, the shoes of the people in line in front of you. give it a shot, you will suddenly find a thrilling sensation of looking for the details in the everyday mundane.

History and looking for art.

Today I took my gorgeous 5 year old niece to a local 'historic site' . We looked at old brickwork, dressed up as Romans and had a thoroughly splendid time. Other than painting a chess piece there seemed little major opportunity for 'art'.

Then -BANG! as I looked up there were these fantastic lights, just giving out a dull glow with an interesting shape. Thankfully my family - 5 year olds included - have got used to me stopping to photograph at the strangest of moments.

So there I was, photographing the ceiling. These strange, ethereal images came out of the camera. Rather pleasing I thought.

Art can be anywhere. It just depends upon how you look.

Hello Holga...

It was a valiant fight. Destined to loose... yet after standing up for principals I ended up with a Hogla! Okay that's a little dramatic. I found a holga camera marked more than half off. I thought it was too good to be true, and figure it probably wouldn't work, but snatched it up and quickly went to buy it. It was marked wrong! The group I was with (specifically Doug my husband) couldn't believe they still wouldn't sell it to me at that price and promptly went back... and won the fight.

So now with the lovely sea-foam green plastic camera in my grubby little hands-I am wondering what am I going to do with it now? TAKE PHOTOS- of course. Yup it is just begging to be photographed.

But a Holga is more than a perfect model. In fact, it is a customizable, elegant, and simple machine. One might argue elegant, but its simple, straight forward and pure photography. The images are far from high res and crisp, and the photos are uniquely holga. Light streaks, vignettes, and oddities are likely to happen. And with a little tape and some modifications these can be encouraged.

I have yet to modify my own, in fact all I've done so far is shoot pics of it. Developing takes a couple weeks, but I hope to have my pics from this week and next up as soon as I get them in my hands.

Hiya! Well you found brain jelly, maybe you should find some toast. :)

Everyday should be an art day, and with this blog I'll try to make a artwork a day. Or at least take a photo of something that looks like art. All I can say is stay tuned. There should be some construction work going on this week. Thanks!
